Yes I know. Someone knocked on our door suppose to be doing work in the next street in the area who does windows/doors etc. We need a new door, side panels and wanted the porch squared off. So a small amount of building work to square it off as its at strange angle and some base work doing. There is a small panel of sheet asbestos in the roof. That would be best to be removed. They claimed they were registered to do that if we wanted.
Any how the sales person came round. As we wanted to get an idea of what we needed to save up. Did us a quote and it came to £7500 before any finance. I am in the top of the southwest area.
We don't have the money and can't afford to finance it in any form anyway at the moment. Is this a fair quote. I am just wondering if I am so out of touch with the cost of building trades.
Hope for everything and expect nothing!!!

I'm not an expert but it sounds like a lot. Added to that I wouldn't buy from someone who knocked on the door, rather through a trusted builder. Maybe look on Check-a-trade or ask for recommendations from friends. But I'm not an expert.0

That extra £6.5K will buy a fair bit of building work (and I wouldn't trust a window outfit to do it). If you are being offered finance, I'd say you have been targeted by one of the nationals (or a local outfit with pretensions above their standing). Did they offer any discounts or scrappage "allowances" ?Contact a couple of local independent installers and get them to quote - You will find they will be half that £7.5K, if not more (no commission for door knockers, sales oik, and support staff).

Just a new concrete base and some brick work to help square it off. As for some strange reason the entire thing is on an angle. They said 2 days worth of work. No scrappage but I thought that was just for windows which we had replaced 5 years ago.We are not in a position to do the work any time soon. We were just dipping our toes just to see. I had thought it been it around 3.5k and even then we still don't have the money
