The way this works is TFL request permission to erect signage and cameras.  If permission is not granted, then TFL can go ahead regardless under statutory powers but that is slower than proceeding by agreement.  If the street furniture is erected ahead of permission or the necessary noticing times for statutory powers, the LA can remove (or compel TFL to remove) the street furniture.  Following which, TFL will serve the necessary statutory notices and the signs and cameras will be back soon.

It does make you wonder why TFL are still seeking permissions and awaiting statutory notice periods so late in the day.  The sensible thing to do would have been to serve the statutory notices sufficiently in advance that the signs and cameras could be erected and it make no difference.

The above only applies to LA roads.  Roads that are under the control of TFL anyway are TFL assets and TFL can erect whatever they wish without seeking permission from anyone.

Considering that many cars since 1999 are compliant some of stuff spouted about the cost of buying a new car is a bit OTT in my view. More difficult for those outside London but still affected that don't get the option of the £2000 payment but cheap cars are still available.
Remember the saying: if it looks too good to be true it almost certainly is.
  • What you are advocating is probably criminal damage.(Criminal Damage Act 1971). Encouraging an offence is itself an offence under the Serious Crime Act 2007.
The best advice you can have is - don't encourage, don't attempt to remove cameras, signs or whatever. If you disagree with the ULEZ, discuss this with your local councillors or other politicians.

Here's a crazy idea: buy a compliant vehicle and stop pumping so much pollution into the city air. You'll probably save money on fuel too. Win, win!

Ironically some of the most gas guzzling vehicles are the ones that are compliant so you might be paying a lot more for fuel if you need to replace a diesel. Most petrol cars since 2000 are compliant including those with 3 litre engines. It's the NOx levels that are measured for compliance not the amount of CO2 and therefore fuel efficiency.

I'm not sure the ULEZ is the way to go, but some people seem to be missing the whole point of it. It's about cleaner air. It's not about climate change, saving the planet, stopping oil, robbing motorists, or free range eggs. That is why 'gas guzzling' petrol engined cars can be compliant, because they don't cause poor air quality the same way diesels do, particularly particle and NOX emissions.. Poor air quality is supposedly responsible for 30,000 deaths a year in the UK, and is likely to be causing significant harm to children living, or attending school, near major roads, with future ill health built in. Difficult to argue against the motive even if the implementation isn't great.
  • Many earlier cars are technically compliant, like the one I already have, but because they were registered before 2006 and therefore don't have the NOx recorded on the registration document TFL will consider it to be non-compliant.  Unless you are lucky and the manufacturer is willing to provide a Certificate of Conformity.

  • Look at the mileage, both of those are way over 200k.  Why would I want to get rid of an 80k car for one that has done over double the miles.
