Currently paying the following on the variable tariff.
Electric 31.19p
Gas 7.51p

Fixed 12m offer available: (less than 2% lower, saving less tham £3 a month)
Electric 30.61p
Gas 7.37p
(Exit fee of £75 each if you change from this tariff)

Wholesale gas prices have crept up alot in the last few months and from next year prices could be a lot higher, or maybe not.
Plus don't like the idea of paying more than I need to if the variable tariff decreases slightly from October if the prediction stays the same.

Quit overthinking it, toss a coin. It has as much chance of giving the correct outcome as a 100 hours of should I/shouldn't I thoughts.

Keep the coin, if it turns out to be a "bad penny" you can think (for a 100 hours?) of something evil to do to it.

Fixed tariffs aren't intended to save money, they're there to provide certainty.
If you want to know what your tariff will be for the next 12 months, it's worth considering.

I moved from Scottish power they were by far the most expensive & not a very nice company.

I moved to octopus last week and I’m saving a fortune. £146 a month for a large 3 bed town house. I was paying over £200 a month with Scottish power.

Wholesale prices jumped very sharply yesterday, and whilst the increase will have only a slight impact on the price cap for October to December due to be announced later this month, if the present prices for the next quarter (starting in January) persist, a fix at those rates could turn out to be a pretty good deal. The decision is yours, but anyone contemplating any fix at this moment might be wise to make up their mind quickly, as it wouldn't be too surprising if some of the deals that have been on offer in the past few weeks disappear in the next day or two.
