Is it possible to remove Threaded View icon in Thunderbird?

I don't want to use this icon in Thunderbird email at all and I keep ticking it by mistake when I mean to tick the star icon next to it.  

If it is possible to completely remove this icon or, somehow, completely disable it to prevent me from ticking it by accident.  The icons are so close together I'll be glad not to have it.  I always find it difficult to reverse it once I have ticked it by accident and, as a result, I struggle trying to find where a particular sent email message has gone.

I use Thunderbird but have no idea what icon you are referring too? I don't see any icon next to the star icon.

Above the list of received emails a column runs along the top with the icons:  The Display Message Threads one, the star one for sort by star, a paperclip icon for sort by attachments, an envelope icon for sort by read and a flame icon for junk.

When I look down the emails, as an example, any emails with an attachment will have the paperclip icon beside them.

What bothers me is that I sent several email replies today (where this "Display Message Threads" icon is accidentally ticked and I can't find the sent email copies anywhere at all - it's as if they have been totally deleted or have disappeared.  Without that icon they would normally be in the "Sent box" for that email address with all the other sent emails.

If you find the icons will you let me know, TadleyBaggie?  I'm sorry if I'm not good at explaining - and thank you for replying.

I have taken a screenshot and saved it to my desktop - but can't get it to appear here by copy and paste or by dragging it.  I have tried.

In Thunderbird, look at  View / Sort by, untick "Threaded".
Also, right click the "Subject" box, here you can remove or add icons to your hearts content.
You can individually customise each "Inbox" if you have more than one.
