Banks are very slow to implement such things, and although an offset of funds is possible, it rarely gets used these days, in fact after over 10 years on this board, I`ve yet to read of it been applied to anyone.

There are certain rules they must follow, and they can`t leave you with nothing, funds must be held in an account in your sole name, and they obviously must have already being credited to the account.

Just because the bank can do something, does not mean they will, and you can prevent the whole thing from happening by getting another account, there are plenty to choose from.

Although the banks have the power to offset in practice it rarely happens and they probably have a procedure to follow. So it is unlikely they will intercept funds before they are even credited. I agree with sourcrates though.  It is easy to open a new account with someone else so  do that so there is no chance.
