Student Finance Error Leaving us 5K short.....

My daughter applied for a Student Finance loan for her final year starting in September. She received her statement yesterday and we were shocked to find that she has only been awarded the minimum amount for maintenance of £4324 (previous years she had the maximum of £9,436) this will not even be enough to cover her accommodation costs! We are deeply worried, and wondering how to cover the £5K short-fall! None of our circumstances have changed (we are both retired) - but on investigation it seems that whilst my wife was sent an e-mail to declare her income for the tax-year 2021-2022, I was not (or at least if I was, I somehow deleted it without seeing it....)  How can we get the loan re-assessed? As usual with Govt bodies (and private firms) there is no obvious way to get reassessed, or to correct (their) mistakes!

According to the microsite SFE will award the minimum amount if the application is incomplete. This could be what's happened.
What does it say on your daughter's SFE account? Does it say something like "application incomplete"?
And what does it say on *your* account?

  • Thanks - on my account it shows no interactions during 2023, Only "Actions Complete" for the 2022 application. There is no record of any request for information (from me) for 2023....not sure what it says on her account - will have to check!
