Hi everyone  :)

I did a dumb thing and locked myself out of my sisters house while I was house sitting  :#

It was around midnight, so I called out a locksmith and he got in in 15 seconds.  The damage was £144 which is a fair whack for me.

Anyway,  my sister, who has house, car and breakdown insurance is resistant to making a claim or even enquiring to the insurer, even if I pay the excess.

She thinks just making an enquiry about a claim will definitely increase her premiums or reduce NCB.

My insurer charges £50 excess for a lock related claim.

Is there anyway of finding out if it's  true about increase premiums or reduced ncb for a small claim?

I thought about doing some online research but she's not telling me about her poilcy detailsas yet, and I am not sure what to do to assuage her anxieties.

Thanks in advance B)

I did a dumb thing and licked myself out

But seriously, I think £144 is at the level where it's unlikely to be worth claiming. It's less than my excess.

    🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

Kenneth's  Williams would make an outstanding licksmith!

Licking myself out was most distasteful!

    Love the gif!

Maybe you're correct about the claim and I'll  have to take it on the chin!

If the locksmith (or licksmith) only charged £150 or so then I think that is very much at the lower end of what you might have been charged. It is not unusual for them to charge hundreds for call outs.

Honestly, if I'd locked myself out like this, I wouldn't be expecting the homeowner to pick up any cost for my error, or to claim on their insurance.

Claims, tend to put renewal costs up (it's a fact of life / insurance) and as she didn't lock herself out, why would your sister make a claim on her policy?

Locking yourself out is not necessarily going to be covered by Home insurance, even basic Home Emergency policies dont include it.

Advising of an incident, if potentially covered, is likely to impact premiums and will be declarable for 5 years. NCD is much less of a thing in Home insurance and so the rules vary more between providers.
