Tandem login query

I've just signed on to Tandem and opened the Instant Access Saver and made my first lodgement. All fine. Even managed to add the bonus interest rate without too much difficulty.

My question:- is the only way to log onto the app to enter your mobile number and await a text message with code to be entered? It seems kind of cumbersome. Any way of converting to a passcode or similar like Chip has?

Sorry if this question has already been answered elsewhere. So much to read on the instant access thread,

They used to have a passcode but have now removed it for some baffling reason. I guess on a pre biometics phone they still use it. As shown by their 2 star app store reviews, their app is very half-anused. Even when they had a pin there was no way to change it or enable/disable the biometrics without deleting and re-installing the app.

The SMS code is the only security on your account. Anyone can install the app on their own phone, put in your mobile and if they can read your text message they're into your account on their own phone.

How would they be able to read the text message, because it would be sent to the account holders phone?

I don't like it either. If someone gets hold of your unlocked phone they have everything they need to login to your Tandem account. I use biometrics on my phone but the tandem app does not use it, even though they say it should. It desperately needs a PIN number or password.

When I open the Tandem app it always asks for biometric login. Very occasionally it wants the sms code entered first. Been using it for 5/6 months.

Unless you change your text setting’s when a text with a security code arrives it is displayed on the screen for a second or two.
Go to Lock Screen notifications, on my phone format, show notifications but hide contend.
The other thing to do for complete security is set up a sim pin.
So if your phone is stolen and sim taken out and put in an unlocked phone it’s still useless.

Biometric security is misleading in this context. If someone else sets up the app on their phone to access your account, it will be their face or their fingerprints "protecting" the app. If they can read your text message, they're in. Not just into Tandem but to some extent into your OB linked accounts.

I tested this process this morning.

Have a search for "port out scam" to see how fraudsters can convince networks to give them your telephone number.

For them to be able to read my text message they would need to have my phone and also my phone unlock code or I would have needed to have unlocked it for them.
