British Gas

Without going into too much detail, I currently have several ongoing issues with British Gas including but not isolated to their abysmal (planned?) customer service.
Their latest lapse is the change in the amount of the agreed monthly Direct Debit taken without any form of notification.
Advice required please and correct me if I'm wrong, but I was under the impression an alteration to a Direct Debit requires at least 10 working days notice to the customer from the business informing them of the new amount to be taken.
I have contacted British Gas who were very blase about the issue and didn't seem too concerned.
I have also contacted the bank concerned who again, seemd unconcerned about the situation.
Looking forward to advice.

    Do you operate your account online ?

    If so, DD change notifications may well be posted there and a lot of Ts and Cs say that is the way it happens.

    You need to dig into your own Ts and Cs regarding the issue.

    Any change to your direct debit will have been on your account where you are advised to check it. This is something every company advisers customers to do, some even send out an email every month to request you do it but most don't feel they need to hold you hand in that way thankfully.

    BG do, however, also put any changes on your bill for you to see. I have just checked my last one as my latest 6 month account check was in June and I remember I had a change then. The bill has a blue box in the top right of the first page telling me what the new amount will be.
