The final bill from People's Energy will show the unit rate you were paying them. Compare this to the unit rate on your first bill from BG. If Dolor is correct, it should be the same price and you've not lost out at all.

Thanks for your reply. Unfortunately, I cannot access any information from People's Energy to check statements or what rate I was on. I have managed to find email statements but they are not attachments and just a dead link. Struggling to find anything online. 

I do wonder if there is some sort of clerical error when passing over my readings as I don't know how I would have under paid £800 worth of just gas energy while on a direct debit each month. 

I'm not optimistic about ever finding out. 

British Gas have offered £50 compensation which is better than nothing.
