Suggestions for the new-look competition site

Can I make a suggestion? Can all the posts be split so that one stream handles competitions for adults and that a seperate, second stream is established for comps aimed at mums, mums-to-be and children? I really appreciate everyone who posts - thank you. But I'm getting bogged down by posts with cryptic headers, so you have to go onto Insta to find out what it's all about... only to discover it's something not aimed at me, a mature woman, but in fact it's for kids' toys and activities. It would speed up the whole process rather than wasting time, which is what's been happening as far as I'm concerned. Thankyou.

So you want the whole format of the forum changed so that it aligns with your particular requirements?

I'm afraid I think that subdividing the forum into separate groups for different audiences would be quite unworkable. Apart from the time it would take to decide which subdivision a comp should be entered into and perhaps duplicating posts to different groups, for those of us with eclectic tastes and wide ranging friends/families/hobbies etc who enter maybe hundreds of comps per day, it would multiply the time enormously for us to enter. How many and on what criteria should sub-groups be created - Men only, Women only, Children only (up to what age), Hobbies only (what's a hobby?), Over 60's, Under 21's, Alcohol, Vegan, the list goes on and on and the arguments over classification would be something to see. So this suggestion is pretty much a non-starter, I'm afraid.
It really does not take a lot of time to decide if a comp is for you or not and the more you enter the quicker you become.6 -
In many cases the prize is (or at least should be) stated somewhere in the post on MSE5

It definitely wouldn’t workStriving to clear the mortgage before it finishes in Dec 2028 - amount currently owed - £26,322.674

There are many listing sites out there, some you can sort by entry method (web, FB etc) and or prize type such as Tec, Kids, travel etc (found a blog that lists their top 5 comping sites and MSE is not in it)2

@gdmoney Not at all. No need to get nasty. I thought I was making a helpful suggestion that others might also consider a good idea. And I'm not talking about endless sub-divisions,just the one. It seems to me, after several years on this site, that the competitions fall clearly into two categories - of interest to adults and of interest to mothers, expectant mums and kids. If no-one else thinks this, that's fine. It was just an idea I put out there to see if others felt the same.I'm not going to shed any tears if they don't!0

I was being truthful. You suggested a change to the way the competitions are presented on the forum. Your suggestion was to divide it into your 2 chosen streams - one for adult competitions you wanted to enter and another stream for ones you didn't want to enter for childrens' toys and activities.Personally, I am grateful to all the people who use their own time to post competitions for everyone else. And if I don't understand what the prize is from the header or the poster's description, hey presto, I click on the link they have kindly provided for me and see for myself. I certainly wouldn't be whinging about being "bogged down by posts with cryptic headers" or "wasting time".

I can see how it could be a good idea as for all of us it would be easier if the competitions were divided into those we wanted to enter and those we didn't. Unfortunately that would be different for each person.
I agree sometimes posters don't put as much detail in the title or the post as I would ideally like but given they are giving their time to post it's what ever they feel like doing.
If I think I would have liked more information I usually add a post with it in.

The thing is on other comp sites the mechanism is already there to sort your favourites and hide what you don't want to see so it is a little unusual that you cannot do this here, without it impacting on others.0

If you want the facilities that can be provided by a dedicated Competition Site, then that is where you need to go.
You can't expect MSE to provide all the fancy competition features for one Board when most of their Boards don't need them.Bob2
