Applying for another credit card

long story short, i applied and was accepted for a credit card last week, and then stupidly realised i couldn't do what i wanted to do with it, which wasn't clear when applying, but anyway .... so my question is, how much would it affect me to apply for another card, i have good credit rating with long history, but i honestly don't understand much of this domain as i try to not use credit cards as much as possible.

  • It would just show as another search.

Lenders will make of that what they will. If you have a good history, it's not an issue.

Your credit rating is of no concern to them.

As above, lenders will see a hard search, which in isolation will have a negligible impact on future applications.  It's when you have several searches in a short space of time that it starts to ring alarm bells.  Your increase in available credit will also be taken into account, but again the effect of that will be tiny.

What was your intention for the new credit card?  If you're a little unsure of how credit cards work then it may be beneficial to let us know what you're trying to achieve, we can then offer some guidance on the best approach and which cards are most suitable.
A basic credit card is a pretty simple beast to manage, but there are situations where people can come unstuck through not understanding the finer points of the T&Cs.  Mixing spending and balance transfers on the same card, for instance, is one that trips a lot of people up, and the T&Cs relating to this scenario will vary from one card to another.

I've had a credit card for years, and use it for normal online purchases mostly amazon stuff, or when we go on holiday .... recently some things happened and had to put a bit more on it, so was going to take advantage of 0% balance transfer, when applying for the second halifax card it didn't mention anywhere on the application form that you can't transfere within the same bank, honestly didn't know this, since looking at other banks afterwards, it does blatantly state you can't do that when you do a soft search from those other banks ..... so right now i have a second halifax card i don't really need, "note application was done on my phone through their app :-/"

So i just wanted to know if its going to have any serious effect on me applying for another card from another bank so i can get 0% balance transfer, I've looked through experian and got lots of pre-approved offers, but that's not the same is it ?

If the hard search for the Halifax card is the only search in the last few months then it'll make little to no difference at all.  Of course any lender will still assess you against all of their usual criteria, but a single search in itself will not affect your chances of acceptance to any meaningful degree.
Before you apply for another card, check who it's owned by - not only can't you transfer between cards owned by the same bank, you also (usually) can't transfer between cards owned by the same group.  Halifax is part of Lloyds Banking Group, so you probably won't be able to transfer from Halifax to another card owned by LBG.

Why would you be unsure of NatWest lending you money because their subsidiary that deals in high net worth individuals closed an account

Nothing has been happening with NatWest.
Coutts is another bank within the same group.
