Not to state the obvious, but I would guess that more things were turned on in July than were in May & June.

This is the nub of it really - unless your meter is faulty, which is probably unlikely.
Possible causes:  Have you got an immersion heater in the water tank that has been accidentally switched on?  Were you out of the house a lot in May/June (on holiday, for instance)?  Have you got guests staying at the moment (especially if they're teenagers!!).  Have you been watching TV a lot more, having lights on a lot more?  Is there an appliance that's been left on unintentionally (laptops, PCs, any form of tech can be a likely culprit) ?
Could be any one of dozens of things, but probably the first thing to check is to systematically go round every room in the house and make sure there's nothing been left switched on that shouldn't be.

    Could be anything.

How many kWh daily has it gone up - day or night electric if multirate etc ?

Perhaps a fridge freezer working harder if in a warmer part of UK for that month, or needing a proper defrost or a faulty auto defrost controller could add more.  But unlikely to double total.

Using more hot water or a thermostat issue etc.
    Visitors / entertaining more.
Showering more often in hot humid month.

Might be worth looking at use by time via an app if have smart 1/2 hr reporting set up.  To try narrow down / spot source.

Or buying some smart monitoring plugs for devices if continues.

But those won't cover big ticket things like hw immersion or shower.
  • Thanks it was 98 kwh for May & June then 95 for July only. Live on my own, grandkids stay occasionally, hot weather was June so fan was on a lot & more fridge use etc, no appliances left on as far as I can remember that's why I'm puzzled

Only 3kwh a day, thats pretty good, do you have solar panels? Mine is around 55 - 60kwh in the summer months due to solar panels.

Just over 3kW a day is still very good / low - my summer use varies c5-8 kWh.

Your May June numbers - 98/61 = 1.6 kWh a day aren't that far above my empty numbers.

Even my FF rated use 274kWh pa = c0.75kWh a day = c23kWh a month based on energy certificate - and it was the smallest  - possibly not the most efficient though.

Were the meter reading taken every 30 or so days over these 3 months? Or on the 10th of May, 25th of June and 31st July for example?

Did you have any one stay with you in July that bought their hot tub with them?

What are March and April's readings? Yes they maybe slightly higher due to the darker nights and use of heating, but not massively so if you have gas heating.
    Are you gas and electric?
    How is your water heated?

Was you away in the first month's you said about?

Any new devices/appliances in the house?
Any appliance that might need upgrading? I.e. the fridge/freezer is making more noise than it did 2 months ago. A damaged fridge freezer uses more electric than it should in my experience.

Any work to the garden/home that's needed power tools plugged in?
