I’m trying to open a joint Rewards account with Halifax for my wife and me, to benefit from the switching reward (I have an unused Virgin Money account to switch from), and then have the ongoing rewards after.

My wife has had a Halifax account for years. Since Halifax requires us both to have an account to apply online for the joint account, I opened one myself. However, I found out my wife does internet banking for her Halifax account using the BOS app, maybe because she lived in Scotland when she opened it. Does that mean we won’t be able to do an online application for the joint account?

Halifax website just says both need to be Halifax customers registered for internet banking, which in our case is true, except for this Halifax/BOS thing. I know they’re the same institution and the apps have identical layout except for branding, are their systems separate though in a way that means we have to visit a branch? I was hoping to do it online as we typically only have time to do financial admin in the evenings and weekends.

Why not get your wife to download the Halifax app and use that instead of the BoS one?

Then your problem (which may not be a problem anyway) vanishes.

She'll need to create a Halifax Internet Banking login too (from which she'll be able to see all her Halifax/BOS accounts).

Once the Halifax Joint account is open, she should be able to see that account from the BOS side too, although the 'Reward Tracker' can only be accessed via Halifax.

It works the same way if opening regular saver accounts with both banks the accounts are visible on both platforms but can only be opened on each banks page

Thank you, she tried signing up for Halifax's internet banking last night, it was very straightfoward, took less than 5 minutes. We need to wait a couple of days to apply the joint account, as my sole account was only newly opened (it needs to have the same phone number for at least 2 working days)
