I change car insurance companies, annually and notice an increasing trend of insurance companies to ask how much NCD you have - up to 9 years.
I have 21 years NCD and am concerned that much of this will be wasted - as when I renew again - my record will just show 9 years rather than the full amount.
Anyone got an answer to how this can be proven the following year ?
Incidentally - just had a renewal notice from Sheilas wheels - last year £192 - this year £350 - found alternative RAC for £175 !!
So it definitely pays to shop around.

With this year's renewal showing 21 and next year's renewal showing you haven't claimed in the year.
  • There is a point at which you reach the maximum NCD entitlement, in this case 9 years.

Its only 9 years with some companies - others allow 30+ years
but how do I prove it, next year  - if my present company only registers 9 years ?

Does it actually make a difference to anybody's prices though, beyond 9 years?

    To some insurers, yes.

As I said before.  You have proof, right now, of 21 years NCD from SW.  Keep it.  At renewal next year, you will also have something from RAC that says you had no claim in the policy year.

Send both to any insurer that wants proof of 22 years NCD.
