Car insurance, '9+' years no claims bonus

Hi all, Hastings won't tell me how many years of no claims discount I have beyond saying it is over 9. I've searched the forum and can see it has been discussed, with the general consensus being it doesn't make a difference to premium anyway. However on the price comparisons website I can see I get a difference of about 20-30 quid from at least one insurer when I change the number from 9 to 12 years.
Unfortunately I can't verify what the true number is, and I don't want to mislead the new insurer and have a voided policy.
Has anyone worked out means of finding out the real number? Are there any valid reasons they won't say, eg.is it just too much for their programs to manage??

Speak to that insurer as it's a problem they will be used to dealing with a lot as many insurers say something like "5 or more years". Traditionally it was a case of piecing it together by showing you joined them with 8 years NCD 4 years ago and their renewal notice confirms no claims in the intermediary years so therefore 12.0
