SKY dirty trick

I was just on the phone to Sky to cancel my Sky Cinema I had it on offer for £6 and now back to normal price of £12.  You have to ring you can’t cancel on the app.  Spoke to an advisor, who said it would be no problem and he could cancel, then waffled on about checking if he could find a better offer etc etc.  he said he noticed a problem instead of dropping down from £96 to £84, as I have got several discounts running on Sky Sports etc those discounts will be removed if I removed Sky Cinema, so my future bills would be £101 and that’s without Sky Cinema….he said he would see what he could do to reduce that….low and behold, came back with a new offer (still without Sky Cinema) of £90 if I agree to a contract for 18 months!!!!  I said I wasn’t happy to agree to 18 months contract and will need to think about it, and then weirdly he found he had made an ‘mistake’ and my reduced rates will remain, so I COULD remove Sky Cinema and my bills WILL come down to £84.  A total ploy to sign me up to 18 months and at £6 more than I’m paying now!!!!!

If you do not like what they are offering the cancel and leave.
  • Sky have been doing this since they first started.   Having been there in the past it's annoying to have to do the dance with them but it can be worthwhile.

No longer having a TV is a joy :)

No rolling monthly add-on is ever tied to your main minimum term contract prices, this is from any company no matter what they tell you. They were either poorly trained or trying it on to retain you. I'd personally put an official complaint in as that's not right.

I dumped Sky for similar tactics about 15 years ago, maybe more.

These days you can use streaming which does not need a TV license if you don't watch any kind of Live TV, a £30 stick gets you access to loads of free channels or you could spend your saving on Netflix, or Disney,  or Apple TV or Prime. You can also load the Catch-up channels like My5, More4 and ITV-X.

If you are into downloading you can use apps to turn them into your own library.

I don't use any PayTV services, I was going to get Netflix but their recent price increases made me think again.

It was really satisfying to dump Sky, I asked them how much notice they needed and they tried to suggest I was still in contract, I stopped the DD and sure enough they tried to overcharge me, a nice goodbye after many years of subscription.

With the amount you stand to save you could save a packet. Dump them!

  • I really do want to get rid of Sky.  We had SkyQ until January - I won a competition which included a Sky Glass Tv and a 12 month subscription to Sky Streaming, so we have only been paying for Broadband since then.  At one point we were paying £120 a month for Sky.

Hubby won't get rid of it though. I barely watch any TV.
Striving to clear the mortgage before it finishes in Dec 2028 - amount currently owed - £30,358.13
  • had it since the mid 80s and dumped it 6 months ago, firestick has everything

Not unique to Sky, this just is the game.. what was the final-best-cannot-go-lower can often be beaten a few sentences later.
