Tiscali - problems

Hello everyone.
I've been with Tiscali Broadband (1mb) only for about 2 years now but paid my phone calls and line rental to BT.
I had a phone call from Tiscali at the end of November offering me their package of free line rental + 8mb broadband + free calls for £19.99 a month.
and so I accepted...
I received a letter from Tiscali saying that my "Go Live" date is 17/12/07, but I was on holiday during this week and only came home on 20/12/07 to find that my phone line is "dead". Theres no dial tone at all. And probably has been "dead" for the last 4-5 days.
Phoned their tech support from my mobile (!!) on 20/12/07, the lady on the other end firstly tried to tell me that there was something wrong with my phone when I told her that my internet is working fine and its just that there is no dial tone at all! after which she told me that there a fault on the line an will be fixed within 24-48 hours. Got a call on my mobile from them today saying that everything is working fine, checked my tel line while tech support was still on my mobile, and no result, tel line is still "dead". Told me that they will be sending out a BT engineer within the next 24 hours who will work outside my house trying to fix this problem!
Im obviously not very happy at all, and paying them £30 installation fee for what? For no phone line?
Surely they are breaking the contract saying that the go live date is 17/12/07. BT have obviously disconnected all services from them, but Tiscali not connected when they were supposed to.
What are my rights does anyone know? or maybe someone has been in the same situation before?

Your still be using same wiring from your house to exchange, the only engineering work normally required is at exchange, so if its been established there is a fault that has developed outside your house, then its unlikely to have anything to do with your change of supplier.0

I've tried plugging in a different (corded) phone into the master socket, and still have no dial tone, but broadband is working. So I am sure that there is no problem within my own house.
Lets just hope that I will have my telephone line working in time for Christmas!! Otherwise if not, what a nice present!0 -
Sound like Tiscali have unbundled your exchange and have screwed up connecting your line to their equipment at the exchange. Other LLU providers do the same from time to time!Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0

Yeah that is what I think.
Thanks anyway guys, all sorted out.
Got my phone working, Tiscali even sent me a text on my mobile saying that BT (!!) have found a fault on the line and are working on it.
Broadband speed is about 5.5MB which aint that bad for this time of day.
Thanks again.
Have a nice Christmas everyone!0
