If I want my satellite dish to be able to work with current older freesat receiver, but later on be able to connect to Sky Q style freesat box, I think I need to ask the engineer to fit a "Hybrid LNB with dedicated wideband outputs" - is this the correct thing to ask?

    The latest freesat 4k boxes will work with the same LNB as the older ones (aka legacy).  No real need to have the hybrid and extra cables.
    It will limit the number of simultaneous recordings though.

    You want a hybrid with dedicated wideband outputs, plus 2 or 4 legacy ports...  Get the installer to colour code the cables to identify the widebands from the legacy at the point of entry.  {You'll have 4 cables 2 in use and 2 not until you get a new box.}

    It's not especially hard to swap the LNB when needed, if the dish is easily accessed.

    We have a hybrid 6 terminal LNB fitted by Sky when we moved into our house.  No extra charge for this.   It is easy to DIY if you can safely reach the dish.

    Just be aware that not all "Sky" engineers will do this - I had a Q install last December in place of the HD box I previously used - I asked her to fit the hybrid LNB to allow me to switch back at a future date if the costs got too much - she refused and said that she would be disciplined for fitting one and didn't have one on her van .

    The independent aerial fitter who came to my house on this topic and another topic regarding my aerial, also stated that they do not fit hybrid LNB but they could fit a wide band one.  He said he could only fit a Hyubrid LNB if I source it separately.

    Further, it also turned out that the spare old dish that I wanted to fit it to is an old Sky dish that does not have the same connectors so the dish would also have to be replaced.  In the end I will just use aerial instead for that location.
