Buy a local sim when you are there.
All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.

Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.
  • Don't use a U.K. sim in Turkey, it will cost you a fortune.  Set up your voicemail before you leave the U.K. telling people to email or message you, buy a local sim in Turkey.

Not cheap... the SIM cards that locals use (which are expensive) will not work in a handset that has not been registered on the Turkish system. So you have to buy special tourist SIMs, which are bad value.

The best solution is to know where to find wi-fi and not use data at all.

Roaming in Turkey is very expensive so make sure it is turned off on your phone before arriving. On my last visit, I ran up a bill over over £10 in no time at all before I realised.

Local SIMs in Turkey are still quite expensive compared to other countries but still much cheaper than roaming

If your phone will accept an eSIM, that may be a cheaper alternative. I've used airalo successfully.

If you're going to Turkey for a holiday then most beach clubs, bars, hotels and restaurants have free WiFi.
