@MeteredOut shortly after he moved he told me where he had moved to. I asked him where that was because I'd never heard of the town. He explained where it was which sounded a long way away so I asked him what the commute was like. He then said he gets the train to a town I have heard of followed by a 20 mile drive. I wouldn't call that knowing every detail about every aspect of his life
    My bolding.

Let it go and live your own life; I really can't be more blunt.

You know how much he bought his for and when, and also when he sold it and for how much.

You must have sesrched to find that out.

I have never known , or been interested n how much someone else paid for their house or how much they sold it for.

Wow! Thou shall not covet thy neighbours goods…. It’s really eating away at you. Focus on you and your own family. Does your wife know how bitter you are? Doesn’t it bother her? I couldn’t cope with so much spite and anger.

It’s a pointless thread. Some people are just lucky. Some work hard and just get by (myself included) and there are some people who are incredibly unlucky. I don’t think you are in the 3rd category and you need to try and practice gratitude for what you do have.

  • @MeteredOut so if someone you knew told you they'd moved to a town you'd never heard of you wouldn't ask where the town was? and you've never asked anyone who lives a long way from where they work what their commute is like?

@sheramber I always look up how much people bought/sold their property for, it's not just this person.

@FtbDreaming it bothers her that we're now in our 40s and only have our little flat to show for it.

You could be in your 40's and have nothing to show for it. You're still doing better than most, and will never be able to keep up with everyone because not everyone has the same opportunities and luck.

The only reason you should be looking in your neighbours bowl is to make sure it's not empty and all that.

The top and bottom of it is you chose to buy a flat that has not risen in  value.

No one can change that and neither will procrastinating and wondering "what if"

Just suck it up and move on.

I follow the teachings of Arthur from John Finimores excellent radio series ‘Cabin Pressure’.  https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=DVyZaLP35ew I genuinely recommend you give it a go.  I am by far not the most successful person I know (and quite possibly the least ambitious) but I am really one of the most content.  I don’t think John meant it to be a philosophy to live by but I listened this series a lot, and believe this little extract has changed my views on life for the better.
  • @herzlos am I really doing better than most? most people I know who are my age are living in houses.

@relieved_sheff the question is why. I saw the prices rocket whilst I was saving a deposit.

@lookstraightahead no, I wouldn't want to live in the countryside and when he told me he'd moved there I thought rather you than me. If my only chance of becoming a millionaire was to spend a few years living in the countryside though I'd do it.

    @ramouth I don't really get that video.

What about those that you don't know? You might feel you're not doing as well as your peers, but you need to remember the big picture.
