British Gas final bill Electric only?

Is it normal that after leaving British Gas, they have issued a final bill a few weeks later only for Electricity but not gas, even though I was with them for gas as well and have switched both to Octopus?

I am now showing £178 in credit, but since there are no gas charges on the invoice they have issued, I would guess that this is not a real credit and they are going to issue another bill?

However why would they issue separate invoices for electric and gas when you leave, when every previous time the bills were combined into one invoice?

I definitely get separate bills from gas and electricity from BG - (I pay on receipt of the bill, not a combined amount monthly)

Interesting as I was on monthly DD and all the invoices I ever received from them were combined for both gas and electric, until this closing one which is separate.

Certainly when on monthly DD from Bulb and later Octopus at our other house it is a single bill / notification of how much we have used / how much money is left.

Must say BG are being a nightmare at the mo - they keep sending bills based on estimates when they have real readings (that are just rather less than they expected and they don't seem to be able to cope) - am moving that one to Octopus too when BG finally sort it .

All suppliers use two data collectors who determine the final/transfer/switch readings for electricity and gas. Readings after a switch are sent to both suppliers via industry data flows. It is possible that these readings could be some days apart. Any reading that you provided to BG at the time of the switch should be ignored for final bill purposes.

I had that happen too. Same suppliers as well.

I'd supplied an opening reading to Octopus, that differed by one unit, by the time Octopus had kick started my smart meters into action again (they'd been dumb for 6 months).

So it took them a few days to agree the final/opening reading with BG, but then the missing final bill came through, and it was all correct.

I also had a first bill from Octopus just with my gas usage, while they were sorting out the electric. Billing had both gas and electric by the next month.
