Travelodeal - Is it ok to pay by bank transfer?

I am about to pay the balance of our holiday to Travelodeal but they have advised me that I cannot pay be credit card due to problems they have had with payments.  They have sent an email with their transfer details and have requested that we pay this way.  I know that Martin Lewis advises that we always pay for holidays with a credit card so we are covered if anything happens.  Is it ok to pay by transfer the amount being £448?

It depends what you mean by 'is it OK' - paying by card gives more protection (which doesn't go as far as "we are covered if anything happens"!), but I'd be more concerned by their request for you not to use that method (which they state they support on their website).  Having said that, they claim to be ABTA members so you'd have the backing of that organisation in the event of problems.

You mention the balance - have you made any payments towards this by credit card?  Have they constructed the holiday for you themselves as a bespoke one, or are they reselling someone else's?

I suggest you telephone them: it is easy to hack into your email and what you have described is a fairly common fraud. Make absolutely certain that the email comes from them and that the account details they have provided are genuinely their business bank account.

Having looked at the reviews, too late for you now, I would be very reluctant to pay by anything other than a card. Travel agents who don't accept cards would go out of business very quickly, so it suggests to me the bank has withdrawn facilities, and I leave you to draw your own conclusions as to why
