Royal Mail Special Delivery Help

However, as Special Delivery is guaranteed "before X" delivery service, if the item arrives safely, but late, you can claim for all the postage costs back. I noticed that SD packages often missed these delivery targets when I send them through a certain post office, so I now use this post office deliberately in the hope that the package is slightly delayed.
This has happened 3-4 times in the last 12 months, saving me about £60-70 in refunded postage costs!3 -
Ha ha. Great tip. I used to have a three or four every few months and always claimed the money back. I gave it to charity as it seemed like I had got a freebie.

If you actually just put it in a post box on a Friday at 5.30pm then i can easily see why day 1 would be the following Monday and the guarantee be for delivery Tuesday b4 1PM.
look at it this way if you put it in a post box at 11.59pm would you seriously expect next day delivery ?
Clearly on their conditions both events are covered.Working days

Please try to arrive:
- at least an hour before the Post Office® closes
- no later than 4.30pm even if the Post Office® has a later closing time
- no later than 11:00am if the Post Office® has a half day closing time.
On Tuesday the 1st August i noticed there had been no update on my item since Saturday, I called royal mail who sai that it could be lost, and also told me to wait for delivery, i mentioned getting a refund on the guarantee and thats when the royal mail person said I wouldn't get one because i posted it after 4.30pm.
The Item was eventually delivered at 5pm on Wednesday 2nd August.
My argument was that if i had posted the item Monday morning at 9am it would be there by Tuesday at 1pm but my item wasn't even delivered till Wednesday 5 days after originally posting the item. So I'm annoyed they wont refund me because they are saying I posted it after 4.30pm on the Friday.
I have since gone to the post office to speak to the lady who posted it for the manager there to refuse to refund as they just take parcels and hand them to royal mail, i mentioned the cut off times for special delivery as per your information but they said that shouldn't matter but they wont help me.1 -

Post Office and Royal Mail are two separate companies so I very much doubt the Post Office manager could have done anything about a refund anyway.0 -
