  • Hiya, I did a multiple pet policy check as mine had become so expensive; John Lewis ticked most boxes for me (the dental cover in particular) and on moneysupermarket it came with a £30 JL voucher.  Went through MSE link, as offering £50 voucher, and the premiums came up £10 per month extra for same cover!

2x cats aged 10 - was with Animal Friends, about to go up from £17.87 each to £22.60 and £25.45 respectively.
1x small dog aged 8 - was with Argos - went up to £67.48 from May.

New policy with John Lewis £64.12 monthly for all 3. There is a £100 excess + 20% of vet fees due to their age but still seems a better deal saving me over £50 pm!

I bought John Lewis dog insurance for lifetime cover and had a 20 percent co-pay and decent excess as it reduced the cost. We made one claim (they did settle quickly and easily) over a year ago, for approx 25 percent of the total policy value. This year (no claims this year) renewal cost has doubled.

Phoned John Lewis and informed that a doubling of the premium year to year is standard especially if they expect a condition might recur. Beware of that - I can see why people self insure now.

I would've expected a small increase, or to be given the option to exclude conditions related to that claim but a straightforward doubling of a policy for a young dog was unexpected.

It seems most premiums for pet insurance have increased greatly this year.

Increased vet fees and increased wages, nic and utility charges have all to be paid for.
