Mechanic mistake in quote

Hi there,
I was quoted a price for work over the phone by a mechanic after he'd checked the car but when I collected the price was higher, not loads about £20. I queried it and he said he must have made a mistake in the calculations. I felt like I should have been offered the initial price as he was already aware of the work that needed doing and nothing extra was done, is that right or should I have not bothered querying the cost? Many thanks

If it was a quote then should be price you were told, if estimate then price can be higher/lower

For £20, not sure I’d have bothered.2

I'd basically agree with this (depends on the nature of the work, of course - £5 to change a bulb, then being charged £25 is different to £250 for a clutch then being charged £270). But if it's a mechanic who you basically trust and who you're likely to be using again, it's probably not worth kicking up too much of a stink about.baser999 said:For £20, not sure I’d have bothered.

What sort of amounts are we talking about? £250 v £230 or as CliveofIndia says £25 v £5fjones101 said:Hi there,
