Ring doorbell

New house has a ring doorbell which I'm not interested in. Does not work as don't have the app.

There's also a traditional 'ding dong' bell, battery powered, and wired to the the back of the Ring bell push..

I've removed the Ring bellpush and making a connection between the 2 wires activates the Ding Dong. So far so good.

But when I reconnect the wires to the rear of the Ring bellpush, the Ding Dong does not sound. Ring instruction say it should.

I could just replace the Ring bellpush with a bog standard button, but getting one the same size is impossible and will leave unsightly marks and holes on the upvc door frame.

Any suggestions?

I think you will need the app to tell the ring bellpush that it is being used to operate a conventional chime, which will mean it will have to work on its internal battery.  By default it uses the two wires as a power supply if they are connected, not for the purpose of signalling by making and breaking a circuit.

You might be better off getting a conventional button.

It's incredibly useful to be able to see what's going on outside your front door, even if it is just the local moggy triggering it.

Perhaps you could make a thin rectangular plastic washer big enough to cover the ring bellpush/holes and fit that under a conventional bellpush.
