Paypal letter - a scam?

I've just rec'd an email supposedly from Paypal. It has the Paypal logo's and layout saying that I've paid deal_source (deal_source@aol.com)$149.95USD using PayPal.
The payment is for an NEC MobilePro Handheld PCPDA quoting an item number etc.
Shipping from Andrew Stevenson, 64-12 Woodward Ave, Ridgewood, NY 11385
the address status being confirmed.
Then a link to 'click' if I wish to dispute the transaction, cancel and get a full refund.
The email was in my junk file. I have not agreed to purchase such an item. When I check my Paypal account no money has been transferred. So, I guess it's a scam?
Does it sound a scam to you?
This is the first such email.I've received and therefore I am naturally worried. I have forwarded the email to spoof at Paypal etc.
Has anybody else rec'd one of these from Paypal/Andrew Stevenson emails and have I done everything I need to do? I have printed the email, should I delete the email from my junk file?
Your help appreciated
PS. I have not clicked the the link

Yes, it sounds like a scam.
If you had clicked the button / link, you would likely be taken to a fake PayPal login page, which is really collecting usernames & passwords for the scammers.0 -

whenever in doubt you can send it to spoof@paypal.com they will confirm its a fake:rolleyes: Democracy is a process by which the people are free to choose the man who will get the blame.:j0

Gosh, if I sent all these e-mails to paypal they'd ban me.
If it does not come through ""your messages"" in your e-bay account its a scam. Log in normally, do not click any links in the message, and check. The Dear Pay Pal User bit is the give away. Paypal and E-bay will always use your proper name.I'd rather be an Optimist and be proved wrong than a Pessimist and be proved right.0 -
hover your mouse over the link and look for the url in the bottom LH corner of your browser.

I got all excited when I read about this, then I realised the idea was to educate OUR computers to recognise spoof emails... not paypal's computers:

Edit: refunded £515 for TV 1.5 years out of warranty - thank you Sale of Goods Act! :j0 -
I seem to recall that Paypal do NOT send out emails with links in them, but rather ask you to log onto your account. What is this life if, full of care, we have no time to stand and stare0

Yes - I JUST got that exact same email this morning. I said WHAT! I know I haven't bought anything from ebay since x-mas. The email came from service@paypal.com and showed the item that I apparently paid for was that Laptop WIFI manual from Andrew Stevenson 64-12 Woodward Avenue, Ridgewood, NY 11385. The item number on it doens't exist b/c I just checked it. I immediately reported the email to spoof@paypal.com which is what you're supposed to do and then delete it. Mine was for $149.95 too.. ha... what a joke. He's obviously just trying to obtain your username and password if you click on the dispute transaction button - don't do it! Let's expose and eliminate this guy.0

I agree with everyone else - definitely a fake!! I've had quite a few of these as well
Best thing to do if you're EVER in doubt is to go to Paypal (by typing the website address in - don't click on a link!), log in and check your account. If there's nothing in your account activity to suggest it's a genuine transaction, then it's a scam email!0
