DLA - change of circumstances

DLA - I have been getting middle rate care and lower rate mobility for my son for a few years, but it's been playing on my mind recently that I definitely should be getting higher rate mobility (which I can't get currently) and probably higher rate care.
If I asked for a change of circumstances and DLA disagree that he is entitled to the higher amounts, will I get to keep my current award or the award they agree with if I then decide to appeal this, or do they stop all payments until an agreement is reached?

As your son has been on DLA for a few years, you will need to request a "supersession" and they will look at it again.
This could mean reducing, increasing or staying the same. If you do ask for the supersession and you are not happy with the result, you can appeal it in the normal way.
If you get an increase it will be backdated to when you asked for the supersession.
