hi all considering 1/2 bedroom properties in bournemouth around 200-250k.. just wondered if anyone has any experience of the town and surrounding areas? ideally walking distance to the sea and a station would be good. thanks for any pointers.

what type of property are you looking for? You could get a flat for that amount, but maybe not in the best part of town.
If you want to walk to the sea you might look for something in Boscombe or maybe Springbourne. That puts you between Bournemouth and Pokesdown stations. Springbourne has loads of students and so lots of rooms stuffed in houses (our two bedroom semi had a smaller sized place 2 doors door sold as a 6 bedroom). And students have cars and there's little off road parking made worse by the fact that everyone parks there when the football is on. Boscombe is more run down but is nicely international (great Polish deli).
You might find something in Poole but that would get you to the harbour rather than the beach. Maybe look in the Oakdale area? Or Hamworthy.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on Debt Free Wannabe and Old Style Money Saving boards. If you need any help on these boards, do let me know. boscombe is good location for me its nearer where i currently live in berkshire. thought you meant southbourne when you said springbourne as id never heard of it.
i checked out westbourne branksome and parkstone all lovely but probably too posh for me , some amazing houses along canford cliff road and the avenue!!!!!0 -
Little Miss Arty is in a student house share in the Springbourne area and personally I wouldn't touch it with a barge pole - street grids of high density housing with very limited parking. Good enough for the great Uni adventure, but not a nice longer term option...
if it was me, I'd be looking in the wide leafy streets around the east overcliff, but nothing really matching the OP's brief there.2 -
Leasehold or freehold? One will get you a much better area but obviously has its drawbacks.
I would be giving Sprinbourne and Boscombe area a wide berth personally. Same to with Poole.
My business is in Southbourne which is about the best area in the town in my opinion. Beach at one end of the road (quieter, cleaner and nicer than central Bournemouth ) and a nice shopping highstreet at the other. One of the few remaing nice highstreets around.
After Sobo, I would then put Christchurch and Westbourne.
I live in Ferndown, public transport not great but if you drive its only 10-15 minutes from Btown centre, much nicer as on the edge of the countryside and less jammed together.
Been in the Bournemouth area for all 41 years of my life. Fortunate to travel most of Europe and around the globe. Still haven't found anywhere I would prefer to live.
£250k should stretch to a Leasehold or 1 bed freehold in the nicer spots.1 -
You should be able to get a flat round the Eastcliff area for that money. Eastcliff is good for the beach and transport. Boscombe is 'colourful', parts of it are being gentrified but a lot of it is whatever the opposite of gentrified is. Lots of hmo properties and social deprivation. Westbourne and Southbourne are very nice, both areas I would be happy to live in but sadly out of my budget.0

Southbourne, Westbourne or at a push Landsdowne if you want to be central.
Boscombe personally I wouldn't touch - as above its really not gentrified.
Outside of Bournemouth proper but close enough to travel in:
1. Parley
2. Ferndown
3. Christchurch
4. Mudeford.

Crucial thing is if you have a car or not I think. No car means parking isn't an issue for you, but may be an issue should you decide to sell.
Having a car means you can be further away and drive to the beaches instead - do be sure to apply for a resident's parking pass as otherwise it will cost you up to £20 a day I believe. Parley & Ferndown (or Kinson or Canford Heath) locations would require you getting to either Poole or Bournemouth stations which can take up to 50 minutes depending on the time of day (slow 7 - 8 miles). Likewise Mudeford (which is beautiful) is a long way from a station as well - I don't know how dependable the trains are at Christchurch which would be the nearest station I think.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on Debt Free Wannabe and Old Style Money Saving boards. i do have a car so a space would be very useful . i guess most flats have allocated spaces, except those converted from houses.0
