Can I put a window in this end terrace wall?

The wall faces the front of some other houses in the cul Dec sac. Having a window in the wall would be a massive plus, even a slit or frosted panel. Question is would this modification fall foul of building or planning regs?

Interesting. I've seen a lot built like this.
Another option I've seen is a long thin window high up in a room to give light but not for seeing out of. That also retains wall space for furniture
Can you photograph the direction a window would be facing? What would you see?I can rise and shine - just not at the same time!

You could install a window on that wall if it meets planning guidance. It would probably need to be non-opening and have obscured glass fitted. You would certainly need a lintel and get Building Control to sign it off - May as well get them to sign off on the window as well as the lintel wouldn't fall within the remit of FENSA certification (I could be wrong on that point).FlaatusGoat said:The wall faces the front of some other houses in the cul Dec sac. Any language construct that forces such insanity in this case should be abandoned without regrets. –

You aren't wrong. The window fitters should advise about a lintel being required, but Building Control need to sign it off.FreeBear said:You would certainly need a lintel and get Building Control to sign it off - May as well get them to sign off on the window as well as the lintel wouldn't fall within the remit of FENSA certification (I could be wrong on that point).1 -

Question is would this modification fall foul of building or planning regs?I think it would probably require planning consent, or at least confirmation (in writing) from the local planners that it doesn't.Also with the decorative design of the brickwork you need to make sure the size, shape and position of the window won't look "odd".0

You could possibly have an opening window if it's an obscure glazed with a fanlight. We put an ensuite in and despite the fact it faces our neighbour's blank wall the bottom of the fanlight had to be above 1.6m (IIRC) from the floor.
