Robert Dyas bogus reduction of recommended retail price on an air fryer. Who's the recommender?

Saw this air fryer or more accurately a halogen oven yesterday in Robert Dyas. I already bought this same thing from them around 18 months ago for £39.99. (Great little cooker by the way, saves a fortune on electricity). It has always been that price (or thereabouts). Just about every other mainstream outlet sells this item for around £40.
They are now trumpeting this as a saving of £50, which is totally bogus and dishonest.
As far as I know, Robert Dyas has never sold this item f anything like £89.99, but at the bottom, they say that the 'saving' is 'versus the recommended retail price'. Completely dishonest and misleading. You'd think that a high street brand like RD would behave responsibly rather than pretend that the item is £50 less than before.
And that brings me to the question; Who decides on the 'recommended retail price'. Is it the manufacturer or distributor? If so, it's clearly an exaggerated price to allow retailers to pretend that the item is being sold for a cheaper price.
You'd expect that of market traders who put a high 'original' price on a label on cheap perfumes, jewellery, watches and cutlery, then make out that they are giving you the bargain of a lifetime by flogging the cheap tat as designer gear, but again. I don't expect that kind of con job from a high street retailer.

A lack of enforcement is the issue.
As an aside the terms on the right of cancellation on the Robert Dyas website are non-compliant with the legislation. You'd expect "high street brands" to do better bit sadly it's par for the course. In the game of chess you can never let your adversary see your pieces0 -
Daewoo set the RRP and according to their website it is 49.99

yes, seems that way. It is most likely a genuine mistake on their part.0

Let's Be Careful Out There2 -
Inflation in air fryer prices seems particularly high !0

yes was def £49.99 RRP when I looked !0

I guess the retailers told Daewoo that the RRP wasn't high enough for them to apply an amazing discount. So Daewoo increased the RRP while continuing to sell it at exactly the same price as before.
If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.0 -
Blimey. I think this is the first time ever I've posted a comment and haven't been shot down in flames with people defending the retailer. Maybe something's changed on the MSE forums; Cost of living crisis maybe; because a year or two ago, there would have been countless posts saying that a retailer can set whatever price they like: You're stupid for not seeing the small print, etc.0
