HSBC Credit Card Direct Debit Reference

Hi,
When I applied for my 0% HSBC credit card, I set up a direct debit for the minimum amount.
I noticed the reference was not my credit card number.
So, I cancelled the direct debit and set up a new one. Again, this had a reference that did not match my credit card number.
This first payment is due in a couple of weeks and I'm worried it won't be applied to my account.
Is it normal for the HSBC reference number not to be the credit card number?

Again, this had a reference that did not match my credit card number. This reference is needed for bank transfers (faster payments) when you make ('push') payments to your CC account from your current account. The card number is used by the CC company to allocated the incoming transfer to your CC account. For DDs the reference to some degree shows you what company takes ('pulls') money from your current account by a DD.

HSBC know what reference is required. As they are setting it up @ their end.PParka said:Hi,

It will be the account number for your CC account, but if you are making a payment to them, you use the card number.
