Thompson and Morgan Perennial Plug Deal

Hi

My dad is asking me to populate his garden with some more perennials and I've just got this deal from T&M for 72 plugs.

https://www.thompson-morgan.com/p/perennial-eternal-flowering-collection/WKF5736TM?acq_source=[med:ad][src:g][cid:2068307491][gid:84818670428]&utm_source=google&utm_medium=cpc&utm_id=2068307491&adgroup_id=84818670428&source=google&gclid=CjwKCAjw8ZKmBhArEiwAspcJ7iagC_jrlKcMSXEJlcSSShh11pcbZwoImCSpdGxbCOaSfSscaRc8phoC2QsQAvD_BwE

Just wondering if anyone has had something similar and what size the plugs will be. I've had some geranium plugs this spring that have done very well.

Many thanks

I've had plug plants from T&M before and although they are small they soon pick up and do well

On the face of it that's good value with plants of different heights

I didn't thnk foxgloves were perennial though
  •  Yes your right foxgloves are biennial. A bit of a cheat on their part but if you leave to self seed they will eventually be perennial.

Some foxgloves are perennial. The ones T&M picture, aren't.

Likewise, had plugs from T & M, mine were battered and required TLC when they arrived, hard life & long time in transit I guess

They will need potting on and then kept in a greenhouse or conservatory until next spring.  Plug plants are far too small to be planted straight into the garden, whatever the time of year.

I understand the need to pot on but won't they be ok in pots until next spring outdoors?

    Cheers

I wouldn't risk it - small pots are likely to freeze solid, thus suffocating the roots.

The instuctions in your link do say that the plugs should be potted on, then kept somewhere frost free before being planted out once all danger of frost has passed.  That's late May or early June next year, depending on how far 'oop north' you are.

I've just ordered a trio of echinacea plants.  They will be supplied in 9cm pots, so will be considerably bigger than plugs - but I'm still going to overwinter them in the greenhouse, as I know that these young plants will struggle in my cold wet clay.
  • Thanks everyone much appreciated.

I got two lots of these at the beginning of the year, they were small and I put into bigger pots. I was hoping the two lots would be different, they are certainly good value.

Cheers for that will keep my eye out next year.
