Whatever you do, make sure you have kept your own independent copies of all bills and meter readings.  BG often delete all previous bills when issuing a revised bill and it can then be impossible to detect overcharging let alone resolve it.

Why not?  Apparently the process now takes only about five days.  Even if you're renting, can you really move that fast without doing a moonlight flit?

If you switch to another supplier, BG will have to issue a final bill and refund your credit within strictly defined timescales otherwise compensation payments kick in.  If you do subsequently move, just make sure you give them your old and new addresses and the moving date.

Don't cancel the DD: if you do, they will probably charge you at higher rates and they will have to send a cheque refund which may get lost or go to the wrong address.
