Options
I’m wanting to upgrade the 500gb SSD in my HP Pavilion laptop with a 2TB SSD and I need help/advise with a couple of things please:

• which screwdriver do I need to open up the laptop?

• how can I clone the current ssd and tramp the stuff onto the new one without having to do a fresh install on the new one?

• how do I find out which ssd the laptop will take?

•what is the cheapest prices I am looking at for a decent 2tb ssd?

HP make millions of laptops so you need to be a bit more specific as to which one you have.

    Screwdriver - usually small Phillips.
Clone - some SSDs come with software but other solutions are available.
SSD type - depends on the laptop (see comment above)
Prices - depending on the type, anywhere between £60 and £120, brand pending.

I've recently installed a new ssd on my wife's netbook and found plenty of guidence on YouTube.

I tried the cloning route but had a few issues that made me decide to do a fresh install of Windows 10 and simply restored all the data from a backup I'd made on an external hard drive.

It's usually on a label on the underside of the laptop.

If not, then perhaps the Fn + Esc key

We don't know yet if NVMe compatible or not; waiting for the model number.
Expect to pay £65 for the simplest no frills SATA 2.5 SSD, but budget for £90. That will cover a good quality product( Five year warranty as opposed to three) for both SATA or NVMe SSD. Say Crucial MX500(SATA) or WD Black SN770(NVMe).
