WiFi extender?

Options
Hi,

We have a summer house at the back of our garden which is out of reach for the WiFi.

In between the summer house, is a garage with elec.

I am wondering whether I could buy a WiFi extender and put it in the garage for it to reach the summer house?

Will this work? And does anyone have any recommendations for an extender?

Many thanks !

M x

Depends on the distances involved. I have a BT 300 extender to cover half of a very large house.

I believe some broadband suppliers supply them free - may be wort asking
  • I would be tempted to buy a MESH system.  A single unit from TP-link is not cheap but may well do the trick.

To give it a cheap'ish try I'd get something like this Netgear plug in extender and see if it can span both receiving and transmitting onwards distances.
If the mains supply in the garage is the same circuit as the house then also look at 'powerline' extenders.

Unless you are planning online role playing games in the sumner house then as long as it spans your distances it should do the job.

I use tp-link decco wifi extender. Signal strength and speed are fantastic.

I have a 3 mode Deco M5 system that covers all my house and garden. Reaching from a garage to a summer house is plausible, but distance and obstructions have to be taken into account.
  • Thanks for all your replies - I will look into the suggestions given :) really appreciate the help!

Please let everyone know how you get on, practical experience helps others in similar sitiluations.
Approximate distances from house-garage and garage-summer house would also be of interest.
  • So sorry for the late reply!

I ended up getting a Deco mesh AC1200 M4 and it works great. I got 3 units (1 near the router, 1 in the garage and 1 in the summer house) - I'm not sure on distance but I'll see if I can get a measurement

Wasn't the cheapest option but I did find it on sale so spent £90

Thank you so much for the advice. Much appreciated
