Missing accounts

I'm really not sure where to post this so happy to be redirected. About 25 years ago I left a terrible relationship. My ex and I had opened bank accounts for the children (then 3 and 5) and both paid in regular amounts. I was pushed to remove my name from these accounts which, regrettably I did. The ex said he opened trust funds for the children and paid the money into them.
Now the children are grown up and one is buying their first home and any money would help but these funds are nowhere to be found. The ex (who is very comfortably off) has 'lost' them.
How would we set about finding these accounts. I do believe they existed. Ex is a **** and most unhelpful.

Was it the Child a Trust Fund set up by the Government or was it bank accounts opened for the children with ex as trustee for them?1

Probably worth running a check with these guys to see if they can find any accounts in their names

Otherwise, if ex is not being obstructive then if they could at least tell you the name of the bank the account is with then they should be able to find it.
Of course there may be no accounts at all and ex has just taken the money in which case it may well be difficult to recover anything1 -
Thanks for the replies. Unfortunately ex is unhelpful, I do wonder if he had the money himself at some point.0
