Electricity meter wrongly showing as de-energised and ScottishPower ignoring it
Hi everyone,
We have moved to a new build over 2 years ago and since day 1 Scottish Power was our supply since it was the one that the building company went with.
Almost 3 weeks ago we wanted to change from Scottish Power to Octopus and when asked to enter the meter serial number it said the meter is register as de-energised.
I promptly called Scottish Power asking why this is happening.. Meter was never moved/turned off and there was no previous tenants in the house and we always paid our bill promptly.
They said that i have to contact the National Grid, thats its nothing to do with them. I then found out that the actual company responsible for the grid installation is a private company called GTC and not national grid.
I contacted GTC and they said they will contact Scottish Power to correct this.
As i said this is been almost 3 weeks ago.. i contact GTC again asking for an update and they said Scottish Power have not replied to them yet. I then contacted Scottish Power and they insisted is not an issue on their side, it is with GTC..
So i cannot change supplier until this is resolved.. but will it get resolved?
What can i do next? As anyone had a similar situation?

Have you checked your property to see who is supplying it on the national register ?SSEN will show you whatever region https://www.ssen.co.uk/supplier-search/Does the actual meter serial number and that on the bill correspond ?There is often a mess up on new builds.

Yes the supplier is GTC which I already called them and they said they have contacted Scottish Power to rectify the issue.. I have called back a couple of weeks later and they said Scottish power haven’t confirmed back and when I called Scottish power they said it’s nothing to do with them..molerat said:Have you checked your property to see who is supplying it on the national register ?SSEN will show you whatever region https://www.ssen.co.uk/supplier-search/Does the actual meter serial number and that on the bill correspond ?There is often a mess up on new builds.
basically both companies are just blaming each other instead of actually resolving the issue
The serial number on the meter and the one on the bill match. So unfortunately it’s not that either
