I currently have a valid annual travel insurance policy which expires early June 2024,booked to go away end of June 2024, if I book flights now and anything were to happen before I needed new policy would my flights be covered by the old policy. TIA

You need to read your policy document as there is at least one company who state that annual insurance does not cover trips booked to commence after the policy end date.

I try to renew the same cover with the same company so that there is continuous cover with one provider. However, I think it is worth a quick call or email to confirm whether you're covered for a trip outside the policy period.
