Back on after a while away. I have lost my 2017 MACBOOK AIR charger. I have seen that I can use a usb to usbc cable to charge from another charger. What does the cable look like and most importantly will it work?
Thanks H

The MBA 2017 model still used a MagSafe 2 charger, being able to charge from USBC came in 2018. Unfortunately you need to by the old style 45w Magsafe2 power adapter

There are third party copies available via other channels for better prices but make sure its Magsafe2 not 1 or 30 -
Wow, £80 for an Apple charger. I'm sure it's far better than everyone else's charger but it's still a heckofa premium for a logo.DullGreyGuy said:The MBA 2017 model still used a MagSafe 2 charger, being able to charge from USBC came in 2018. Actually, they weren't very good, the cable is physically connected to the brick and is rubberised plastic so when it inevitably splits you have to replace the whole thing.flaneurs_lobster said:

The new ones are technically much more expensive still but firstly they are now braided cables so less prone to age related damage and they are separate from the brick so replaceable. Better still is that you can also use USBC cables and not just MagSafe3 so if you do lose/break your charger you've a wealth of options to replace it with.
With the new M processors power demand is so low that my 14" Pro can do basic office work all day long and actively charge the batter using just a 20w phone/tablet charger. My Surface Laptop on the other hand doesn't even charge from a 20w power supply even when not in use.0 -
Thanks for the speedy response DGG and F lobster. I have placed an order on the Big River site for a replacement charger. I'll let peeps know if it works. Thanks again H. ps If I bought genuine Apple Charger it would be worth more than the MacBook.0

If its anything like the 3rd party one I bought it will work fine but gets exceptionally hot... I was certainly mindful of what surface it was put on and didnt leave it charging unattended.HARRY_KARRY said:Hi! All. picked up new charger today. plugged in, battery charged. Cost just over £23.
