Can you apply for credit card with same lender if you close previous card?

I'm going to ask about virgin and Halifax. Does anyone know if you're allowed 2 of these cards?

I have two Virgin cards. Both had BT/MT offers at the same time too.

Had 3 virgin cards a while ago. Have 2 Halifax - that is their limit, I could change one or both to a different Halifax card but not get a third.

For the cards I've closed recently -

Sainsburys Bank advised I could reapply in 90 days

Virgin Money didn't advise but I understand need a 6 month gap

Tesco Bank advised I could reapply immediately

Amex will allow a new application straight away but won't pay any SUB on the same card type for at least 2 years (most stipulate 2 years without a personal Amex of any sort).

MBNA didn't advise.

Closed a Natwest CC last night and was advised by auto message that I could reapply immediately, and have up to 3 credit cards with them simultaneously.
