Holiday cancelled by tour company

Advice please! We booked a holiday excl flights with a tour company. They cancelled the weeks holiday due to the extreme heat in Greece which meant that as we’d already travelled to Greece, we had to make alternative arrangements which have therefore come at a huge premium. The company have given us a full refund which is great but we are hugely out of pocket since we’ve had to book new accommodation, travel and entertainment which had been incl. in the original holiday. Can we expect to get any of these costs back?

What do the T&Cs say that you agreed to?
How much was the refund? How much have you spent on the equivalent accommodation etc?0 -
A travel insurance claim for this I reckon.

Sounds like you booked a (non-packaged) DIY trip with one part of the holiday cancelled, no link to the other trip elements. Certainly check the T&C of the supplier but I doubt any onus on them to make good any loss on other elements of the trip or extra costs to rebook.1

I don't believe there is any equivalent to the EU compensation for flights legislation for hotel bookings so if you are entitled to anything then it would be a lot more effort to get it and would probably involve you having to go to a Greek court to get a ruling in your favour.
It seems a bit weird to me that they cancelled the entire holiday due to extreme heat in Greece unless you are talking about places they were evacuating. I'd have thought provided the accommodation was still open and operating that they'd have given you the option of still going even if maybe some elements would have been unavailable.1
