Comping Fatigue

Does anyone else get comping fatigue?

After a win I get such a big buzz and it encourages me to enter ALL the comps.

I'm in a bit of a dry spell atm for winning and need a little win to keep me going!!!

Anyone else feel the same?

Hoping this means I've got a win on the horizon!

  • I know what you mean - had a very good win in January and not a lot since then - I find reading about other posters' wins makes me want to carry on - the motto being ''If they can win so can I!''

I started comping in November and won £1500 from Bauer Media in the first month, then nothing since, despite entering around 2000 competitions in that time.

I think the novelty has worn off for me at this point and it has ceased to be exciting or fun, so I'm giving up on it. Finding and entering competitions now feels more of a tedious chore, and makes less money for the time spent, than just working overtime at my job.

I can understand your frustration, entering many competitions with nothing coming back seems like a totally pointless exercise. It must have been terrific winning such a nice prize so soon after starting comping and then a real let-down for all the months after that, having built up your expectations.
Unfortunately this hobby (and it must be looked at as that, not a way of making any money) is 90% (or more) dependent on luck and the more you enter the more likely you are to win at least something to keep you interested. I enter about 1500 or more competitions per month and count myself lucky to win a single prize out of that. During the 2000's I went for 3 years without a single win, nothing, nada, not even a plastic apron or CD. I was about to give it up but then won a cellar of wine and a holiday. You never can tell when it will happen, but if you persevere it eventually will.
I look upon comping as a way of passing my spare time in a way that may eventually return some totally unexpected and pleasant surprise, but never expect any particular competition to be a winner. It is a cheaper alternative to going to the pub and over the past 35+ years that I have been entering competitions regularly, I have had some amazing wins, things that I would never in my life been able to afford.
Once it becomes a chore and you are forcing yourself to do it, it is not fun anymore, but all I can say is, just keep at it, even on a casual basis, a competition or two here and there and when you do win you may be infested with the bug again.

I like that perspective @pate-ci0. I started comping because I found myself "doom scrolling" on an evening on social media, comparing myself to others and it wasn't making me feel great! Entering comps gives me much more of a buzz and helps me fill that spare time - it also stops me worrying about work and other life problems while I'm in the zone entering.

That being said, I still get comping fatigue and even the tiniest of wins gives me such a buzz to keep entering. Would love to have a big win one day but it's all a game of odds which is why we play ;)

    Hi all
Absolutely agree with all of you, I do get disheartened when I see  entering on instagram alot and I just look and think what's the point, I will get blocked 😒. I work full-time and get very fatigued and down about it sometimes. I usually have a few days break and go back when motivated. I have won a couple of books (which I liked) Over the last 6 months ish, but it irritates me when you can see same names comes up, cause they dont work (lucky them) and have more time or those that operate as a business. And dont even get me started on the scammers 😜
End of the day it is a hobby so do things that make you happy and enter when it suits you.
A continuous good luck and best wishes to all

Yes, Instagram and Facebook pose a problem for compers, enter too many without being careful and you get blocked, sometimes temporarily but, as with my original account, sometimes permanently. Now I enter by ensuring that every post is in some way different from most previous posts, by sticking either relevant emojis, or if I'm in a hurry random emojis, at the end of the post, and trying to use as many different friends tags as I can. Since all of my 'friends' are also compers, I hope none of them are too offended; at least none have notified me as such so far.
The only problem is finding 'friends' who are happy to be so used and if they want to tag me that is a bonus, pointing out some comps I've missed.
Since MSE does not allow us to share such personal information, I have gleaned a few from various sources over the years (mostly from before MSE banned it) and as far as I know most of them are still in the land of the living, but to get new ones you would have to frequent other comping sites to quackly collect friends.

pate-ci0 Thanks not a bad shout that  Thanks, I will try that
  • Up until about 2013 I was winning around 10 - 20 prizes a year, since then the most I have won is 4 in a year, usually it is one or two. I carry on because I am an eternal optimist but there are less and less comps to enter each year due to the increase of those shifting to social media, video sites, widgets, raffle sites and other such junk.. If I ever get a decent financial win I will most likely drop the comping, I am only in it in the hope of winning

    2025 Comps 2931: wins 3: value £1300
    2024 Comps 13526: wins 13: value £1475

  • I feel very lucky to win anything, and have been blessed with lots of wins since joining the forum. I enjoy comping and like how do many people are willing to share the competitions and answers, and it makes me feel like there are a lot of hard working, honest people on this forum and that keeps me going. I also like reading what other people have won. But I get bored with having to enter my details in all the time so if that happens I take a break or say that's enough for today and will start again when I feel excited about entering again.
Thanks to all who post competitions!
