Paint for stone external window cills

Hello, I need to repaint the external window cills of my Victorian house but do not know which paint I should use for durability - it has to be black as can only replace like for like (conservation area). Would gloss be durable or do I have to look for special paint. I will rub down the cills so they are smooth and not flakey but there will be quite a lot of overpainting of paint already there - would that make a difference? Thank you for your help

It doesn't have to be gloss, there are options for gloss, satin, eggshell and matt finishes which should all be as durable. I'd recommend Sandtex Xtreme Exposure for the most durable finish but you could do any combination of undercoat and top coat system. Even Sadolin Superdec would be fine. Water based paints are probably better than oil based these days.

I use matt black masonry paint on mine. Sticks to just about everything, and doesn't flake off - it just weathers away slowly, and a recoat is easy every few years.
  • Sandtex exterior masonry paint is ideal......lots of different colours and finishes available.
