Car insurance for someone for whom insurance comparison sites don't work

My husband is from the US and has had a driver's license for over 50 years. He obtained a UK license last year and when I go into comparison sites there is no option to explain his driving experience. The quotes are based on the amount of time he has had his "current license" which is only one year. This significantly increases our insurance premium; the irony is that when we had insurance based on his US license it was much lower. I'm thinking the only way around this is to use a broker, does anyone have any knowledge of this issue?

A broker is probably your best option, other than calling some insurance companies yourself to see if they can help you.0
