Health insurance query

Hi, hopefully there is a simple answer to this one. We have a private health insurance policy covering the whole family that we have never claimed on. Over the last few months the Mrs has started having trouble with what is suspected to be gallstones. She is in a lot of discomfort on a regular basis with this so we have been considering pressing the button on the health insurance as she is finding it hard to wait for the NHS wheels to turn. Whilst debating this, we've just had through our renewal documents as the current policy runs till mid-August. The first question is, is she required to mention about this possible gallstones thing before renewal? The second question is, if we press the button on the private policy now (as in, before renewal) are we then going to be hit with a higher renewal?

You dont need to declare anything thats developed during the policy that you havent claimed for
If you claim before your renewal it may impact next years premiums, the other thing to check is the excess as certainly some providers (eg BUPA) the excess is payable per policy year not per claim and so claim just before the renewal and unless its sorted before the renewal then youd end up paying two excesses, one for each year.1 -

Looks like it's worthwhile seeing if the Mrs can hold off for a couple of weeks.''He who takes no offence at anyone either on account of their faults, or on account of his own suspicious thoughts, has knowledge of God and of things devine.''0
