Cruise supplement required for a river cruise?

I have a current annual policy with Insure & Go but haven't included a cruise supplement because I only ever expected this to be required for  ocean cruises (due to the cost of transferring someone if taken ill at sea). I  don't have a cruise booked now and have held off booking one because of the apparent  need to pay a supplement. I would never do more than 1 cruise in a year so don't want to pay extra to top up my annual policy. Is this a general requirement for river cruises now? I have only ever done 1 river cruise 20 years ago and it didn't occur to me to even ask about a cruise supplement then.

I think it probably depends on the insurance. Some of them include river cruises a standard without needing the extra supplement. You probably need to check the terms and conditions or check with the insurer directly.
