Lost cheque stolen?
ikcdab
I was sent a cheque to pay into my account. I had to post it off but Monzo say they haven't received it. I have contacted the person who sent me the cheque and they say it has been cashed.
So I guess the cheque was stolen from the post and paid into someone else's account. Its only £45 so not a lot.
Apart from the bank cashing a cheque in someone else's name (?), how can in find out who cashed the cheque and what else can I do?

The person who wrote you the cheque would need to speak to their bank about the issue. I can’t see how you would be able to find out where the cheque was paid in yourself where it hasn’t been paid out of or paid into an account belonging to you.0

As an aside - I was under the impression that Monzo was one of these more modern app-based banks.
It seems ridiculous that you have to physically post a cheque for an amount as small as £45 to them to get it creditted.to your account.
Was there a specific issue with this one particular cheque or does Monzo not have the facility to simply process the cheque via your mobile ?0 -
Unbelievably no, they don't offer that facility.

It seems utterly bizarre that you can't upload a cheque in the app yet "dinosaur" banks like NatWest, Lloyds and Barclays have had this facility for some time.
P.S.
Apologies to OP for adding nothing worthwhile to their thread.2 -
How long ago did you post it?ikcdab said:I was sent a cheque to pay into my account. I had to post it off but Monzo say they haven't received it. I have contacted the person who sent me the cheque and they say it has been cashed.

Is it possible that it is still going through the system at Monzo? Their CS staff may not be able to see it until it clears.0 -
At least Monzo have a (very slow) mechanism, Kroo and Chase have no cheque pay-in facilities at all.kaMelo said:Unbelievably no, they don't offer that facility.

PS more apologies, also not adding to OP's thread topic.1 -
So interesting side question. If I scan a cheque on my phone and pay in it, what then happens if I were then to try and pay it in again? Say I then took it to the branch and paid in the physical cheque?
On my original question, I have gone back to the originators to see if he can find out who cashed it.0 -
Apologies for having sent the discussion this way in the first place, but as you ask.... My guess/understanding is that the second payment would initially be accepted by your bank (as the teller wouldn't necessarily know straight away that you'd had it creditted via the app) but the issuing bank would refuse to honour the second payment....ikcdab said:So interesting side question. I had a similar sort of issue with a cheque, paid in via post office in south London.
After 8 weeks it had not arrived, but not cashed either.
Post office blamed bank and bank blamed post office.
Bank gave me the money, only £30.
5 months later it was banked in Scotland and I got the £30, bank said I could keep it.
Win, Win.1 -
Monzo sort codes are not eligible for cheques, no idea how they process them.30+ years working in banking0
