Hi, I moved out of the property, British gas sent me the final bill of £10 which I paid immediately. A few days later they sent a new bill for £500. I claim that after a final bill they cannot change their mind. Do I have a case?

Your claim would unfortunately be incorrect.

They are required, in fact, to correct the final bill if it turned out to be incorrect.

There is no such thing as "full and final settlement" in this context.

even if they had the correct readings and it was just their mistake.

I believe they can go back 6 years.

When you got the bill for £10 did you honestly think it was correct.?
Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill

All businesses make mistakes. Look at it through the other end of the telescope: if your supplier had used an incorrect closing reading (it happens) and you had been overcharged by £100 would you expect it back?

DD may not have covered the usage.

Monthly DD's are not for that months usage, they are/should be balanced out to cover 12 months usage. Which is why you have credit in summer, to cover the debits over winter.
